IDEA and Section 504: Key Components and Implications for Paraprofessionals

Section 504 - Paraprofessionals

Description

A DirectSTEP® eLearning course from LRP

This course will examine the key components of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504). Topics include eligibility requirements, procedural guidelines and safeguards, the standards of a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) under each law, and the necessary elements of both individualized education plans (IEPs) and Section 504 plans.

As paraprofessionals may be responsible for implementing both IEPs and 504 plans, this course also addresses the paraprofessional's role in ensuring that FAPE is delivered to students with disabilities, and the specific knowledge and skills paraprofessionals should have to do their jobs effectively and in compliance with the law.
