Unlike their counterparts in the private sector, government employees, especially federal government employees, have a variety of oversight agencies responsible for ensuring fair treatment within the workforce. Employees invoke the protection provided by these agencies by filing appeals, complaints and grievances challenging various management actions. The management action being challenged determines the forum in which the appeal will be heard. Every employee relations and EEO practitioner needs to be fully familiar with the various jurisdictions of each appellate agency and the procedures relevant to that agency.
