Common Core Curriculum: Instructional Implications for Students With Disabilities

Price: $250.00

Presented by Carol Kosnitsky

Roll-out of the Common Core State Standards has begun, and educators across the country are being challenged to realign curriculum and address shifts in instructional priorities as they prepare for implementation. Special educators must be proactive and engage in this same work.

In this recorded audio conference, experienced special education consultant Carol Kosnitsky will outline the major instructional shifts in the English Language Arts standards and Mathematics standards and their implications for supporting students with disabilities. Instructional resources will be identified that can assist special educators in developing IEPs that are instructionally relevant and designed to increase access to the general education curriculum. You and your staff will learn:

  • Ways to craft practical IEP goals related to academics and transition that link to Common Core standards
  • Resources for assistance in providing reading and writing instruction for students with disabilities, such as academic vocabulary lists and LEXILE measures that give text complexity scores
  • How access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities may be impacted by instructional changes resulting from the Common Core
