A DirectSTEP® eLearning course from LRP

Developed by Debbi Herrera

Universal design principles do not replace the use of accommodations. However, it can reduce the need for specific accommodations for students with disabilities, because of the increased access to content and learning that is created for all students.

This course provides an explanation of the origin and purpose of universal design principles and the federal guidelines that relate to educating students with disabilities. The course also examines strategies and steps for implementing universal design principles to improve success of curricula and instruction for all students. Finally, the course provides practical knowledge and application for designing instruction and assessments using universal design principles.
