(2006) 27th Post-Institute Symposium #1 — Designing Positive Behavior Supports for Students Across the Autism Spectrum

Students across the autism spectrum who engage in problematic behaviors present a unique challenge to educators. When staff is unprepared to appropriately assess and program for behaviors, the challenges grow. This half-day session addressed the role of crisis management, provided strategies for assessing problematic behaviors, discussed the common mistakes made when behaviors occur, and offered strategies for programming, including teaching alternative behaviors and creating positive learning environments. This session was presented by Cathy Pratt, Ph.D., Director, Indiana Resource Center for Autism and James Ball, Vice President of Autism Services, YCS Sawtelle Learning Centers.
