This course will: examine the most recent legislative updates pertaining to the role and qualifications of paraeducators working with students with disabilities; delineate between the roles of the teacher and the paraeducator; identify the various settings and roles that paraeducators may serve; and guide in creating a professional development plan.

• State the roles and responsibilities of a paraeducator.
• Name key laws and events that led to the development of the role of a paraeducator in the classroom.
• Identify the continuum of settings from least restrictive to most restrictive, in which paraeducators provide services.
• Explain the importance of a professional development plan and portfolio, as they relate to a paraeducator.
• Complete the module assessment with 80 percent mastery.
