This course was designed to help teachers learn about the IDEA disability categories of eligibility for special education and related services. In addition to the legal definition of the 13 disability categories under IDEA, this course examines the causes and methods for diagnosing these disabilities and provides tips and instructional strategies that can help teachers to support the academic and non-academic needs of students with disabilities.

Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the 13 disability categories defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004.
- Identify disability definitions that have changed with the reauthorization of IDEA ’04.
- Recognize some of the causes of and methods for diagnosing different disabilities.
- Employ and self-assess instructional strategies for students with different disabilities.
- Complete chapter assessments with 100 percent mastery and the final assessment with 80 percent mastery.
