This course is designed to examine the reasons for misbehavior and its importance when responding to disciplinary referrals of students with disabilities. The course will also discuss how to type, prioritize and analyze the functions of behavior, and why students internalize and externalize behavior. Finally, the course will examine what the law requires regarding the use of scientifically research based practices, disciplining violent behavior and strategies for managing and preventing misbehavior.

- Respond appropriately when students with disabilities are referred for disciplinary action.
- Direct a proper functional behavioral assessment of a student with a disability.
- Recognize what constitutes a research-based behavioral intervention and recommend strategies for different disabilities.
- Complete chapter assessments with 100 percent mastery and the final assessment with 80 percent mastery.
