Celebrating Similarities: Students with Disabilities - Training Module Two is part of Paraeducators: LifeLines in the Classroom Training Modules Series.
Each Training Module provides solid instruction on key content knowledge and collaborative skills - so your paraeducators learn how to effectively meet the needs of students with disabilities and, at the same time, receive ongoing training and professional development as required under NCLB and IDEA.
Each Training Module can be used independently or as part of a comprehensive training package and includes:
- A CD-ROM containing participant handouts, as well as overheads and resources
- Suggested timing, content breaks, pacing and activities for a single 6-hour session, two 3-hour sessions or four 1-1/2 hour sessions
- Facilitator tips to create and provide an inviting learning environment along with resources for brushing up on topics, such as glossaries and definitions of must-know legal term
Through interactive exercise and guidelines, Celebrating Similarities teaches participants how to communicate and connect with individuals with disabilities to create and maintain a positive learning environment for all students. This Training Module also examines eligibility criteria, disability descriptions and facts, alternatives to traditional labels as well as People First language, so participants focus on the needs of the students and necessary support levels to ensure student success.
